What is allergy Immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy is the process of slowly introducing known allergens to a persons body in a slow and controlled way in order to allow the body to re-learn how to respond to allergens. The result is a potentially permanent cure for seasonal and other respiratory allergies

How does the program work?

Our program is a comprehensive approach to testing and treating patients. Most allergist offices fall short because they require in-office injections for years at a time. Our program, on the other hand, is designed to be home-based. We guide our patients remotely on how to administer the injections themselves, allowing them to continue with their daily work and activities without constant disruption.

Our program’s expected duration is 3 years and has 2 phases:

  • Pre-Test: First we will test you for 58 of the most common respiratory allergens in our area to ensure this program is right for you. If accepted you move to Phase 1.

  • Phase 1: Ramp Phase. In this phase, we slowly increase the dosage of the identified allergens on the Pre-Test to reach the maintenance dosage. Here we will train patients how to administer their medication themselves and coordinate their care remotely

  • Phase 2: Maintenance Phase. In this phase, once patients have reached their expected dosage for the rest of the program. Here, they will continue administering injections themselves at a regular dosage schedule

Throughout the program, patients will have an office visit monthly as well as regular virtual visits to remotely manage them

What do you test for?

Our program is designed to test and treat common respiratory allergens in our zone. We test for 58 common allergens including the following categories:

  • Trees

  • Weeds

  • Grasses

  • Animal Danders (Cats, Dogs, Birds, etc.)

  • Insects (Cockroaches, Dust Mites, etc.)

  • Molds

We use the gold standard of in-office skin testing to confirm results in less than 15 minutes

Am I a good candidate?

Not everyone can or should receive immunotherapy. Patients under the age of 5, pregnant patients, and those with unstable asthma, anaphylaxis, or other severe autoimmune conditions are not good candidates for this program. Additionally, research suggests that those taking beta blockers, ace inhibitors, or other kinds of cardiovascular medications may be ill-suited for it.

This program requires atleast 3 years’ worth of commitment to achieve long-lasting and often permanent results. Patients should be prepared to continue uninterrupted for the duration of the program. Our home-based therapy is designed so it is easier to continue the program despite travel or other periodic changes in routine

Is this covered by insurance?

Yes! This program is usually covered by insurance. You will still be responsible for any co-pays, deductibles, or other out-of-pocket expenses with your plan!
