What is allergy Immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy is the process of slowly introducing known allergens to a persons body in a slow and controlled way. This process is designed to gradually allow the body to re-learn how to respond to allergens. The result is a potentially permanent cure to seasonal and respiratory allergens

How does the program work?

Our program is a comprehensive approach to test and treat patients. Where a majority of allergist offices fall short is that they require in-office injections twice weekly for years at a time. Our program on the contrary is designed to be primarily home-based. Where we guide our patients remotely on how to administer the injections themselves, allowing them to continue with their daily work and activities without constant disruption of their lives.

Our program’s expected duration is 3 years and has 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: Ramp Phase. (First 6 months) In this phase, we rapidly increase the dosage of the identified allergens to reach the maintenance dosage. Here, we train patients how to administer injections themselves, and we have twice-weekly virtual visits to coordinate their dosing regimens until they reach the maintenance phase. Patients will also have monthly in-office visits.

  • Phase 2: Maintenance Phase. (Next 2.5 years) In this phase, patients have reached their expected dosage for the rest of the program. Here, they will continue administering injections themselves and will need to have biweekly appointments - one in-office and one virtual each month for the duration of the program.

Am I a good candidate?

Not everyone can or should receive immunotherapy. Patients under the age of 5, pregnant patients, those with unstable asthma, anaphylaxis, or other severe autoimmune conditions are not good candidates for this program. Additionally, research suggests those taking beta blockers, ace inhibitors, or other kinds of cardiovascular medications may be ill-suited for this program.

This program requires 3 years’ worth of commitment to achieve long-lasting and often permanent results. Patients should be prepared to continue uninterrupted for the duration of the program. Our home-based therapy is designed so it is easier to continue the program despite travel or other periodic changes in routine
